Obituary Professor Eberhard Straube
14.09.2023

We are deeply saddened to have learned that Professor Eberhard Straube, founding member of ZIK Septomics, passed away on August 19th, 2023.
Professor Eberhard Straube was director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology at Friedrich Schiller University Jena for more than two decades until 2015. Together with Prof. Konrad Reinhart (former director of the Dept. of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine) and Prof. Axel Brakhage (director of the Leibniz-Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans-Knöll-Institute), he developed the idea for a research facility that would be dedicated specifically to sepsis research for the first time in Jena. Through his dedicated initiative, the Center for Innovation Competence (ZIK) Septomics was founded in 2009, which in the following years has developed into an institution well known far beyond the boundaries of Jena with a research focus on sepsis and life-threatening infections.
Eberhard Straube deserves our deepest gratitude.
We will keep him an honorable memory. Our sympathy and sincere condolences go to his family.
