Patients who develop COVID 19 as a result of a SARS-CoV 2 infection and need intensive medical treatment appear to be exposed to an increased risk of cardiovascular events. In a multi-center clinical study led by Professor Sina Coldewey, intensive care patients with COVID-19-associated sepsis are to be comprehensively characterized on a clinical and molecular level. The aim is to identify prognostic markers for the occurrence of cardiovascular events as well as for the short and medium-term course of the disease and for mortality.
The excellent infrastructure for translational research projects, which has already been created within the framework of the BMBF funding of the NWG Translational Septomics and the second funding phase of the ZIK Septomics, is proving to be particularly valuable in this context.
