The Centre for Innovation Competence (ZIK) SEPTOMICS combines state-of-the-art fundamental research in the fields of molecular biology, microbiology, infection biology, genomic research and bioinformatics with an excellent clinical expertise in order to accelerate advances in sepsis research and to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. With this strategy we want to contribute decisively towards a considerable reduction of the frequency of severe infections as well as the sepsis mortality rate.
SEPTOMICS is scientifically supported by the Jena University Hospital with the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine and the Institute of Medical Microbiology as well as the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans-Knöll-Institute.
As a faculty-wide interdisciplinary research center of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena SEPTOMICS has asserted itself succesfully in the competition "Centres for Innovation Competence: create excellence - foster talents" that was initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Additionally, the state of Thuringia supports SEPTOMICS via the programme "ProExzellenz" with the provision and maintenance of a new laboratory building and an associated clinical research group.
