Host Septomics

Das wissenschaftliche Hauptanliegen der Host Septomics- Forschergruppe für Infektions- und Mikrobiomforschung ist es, zum Verständnis der komplexen Wechselwirkungen zwischen der menschlichen Lungenschleimhaut und der Umwelt sowohl im gesunden Zustand als auch bei Krankheit beizutragen. Dabei liegt ein besonderer Fokus auf der Pathogenerkennung durch Rezeptoren und der nachfolgenden Aktivierung von Signalwegen und von Epithel- und Immunzellen in der Lunge. Besondere Schwerpunkte liegen auf den Carcinoembryonic Cell Adhesion Molecules (CEACAMs) und den C-Type Lectin Rezeptoren. Neben Pathogenen konzentriert sich die Gruppe auch auf die Erforschung des Lungen- und Darmmikrobioms als wichtige Faktoren, die für die Pathogenese pulmonaler Infektionen von Bedeutung sind. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Analyse der Rolle von Pilzen als pulmonale Kommensalen und potentielle Pathogene in der Lunge.

Bei einer Lungenentzündung ist der humane Wirtsorganismus zusammen mit seinem ihm eigenen Lungenmikrobiom als eine funktionelle Einheit zu betrachten. Unserem Verständnis folgend können die Mechanismen einer Erkrankung daher nur unter Berücksichtigung beider Seiten dieses „Meta-Organismus“ beschrieben und analysiert werden. Zur Beantwortung unserer Fragestellungen haben wir u. a. neuartige Werkzeuge und Techniken mit 16s rDNA- und ITS-Sequenzierung entwickelt, um somit regulatorische Ereignisse und zellulär-bakterielle sowie zellulär-fungale Reaktionsprofile in Modellsystemen chronisch entzündlicher Erkrankungen zu verstehen.
